July 8, 2012 – The Good Fruit

One Sunday in the beginning of summer, we listed fruit that we think will grow in a community that is open to the living Word, watered by the Spirit, and obedient to God. Here is the list that we wrote down: heart of justice, generosity, humility, intimacy, peace, compassion, passion, hospitality, joy, hearing ears, and an other-focused heart. I’m sure that list would grow longer if we had broken into smaller groups and everyone had had a chance to speak. However, the important thing is that we named these fruits collectively.

This series is designed for many voices. Each person in our church brings a unique gifting, a unique hunger and therefore a unique expression of fruitfulness. God uses us to shape, teach, and form each other. It is only fitting, then, that during the rest of the summer we will hear different members of our body talking about a fruit of their choice.
