Following Love’s Lead

(appears as the cover for her book The Cure for Sorrow: A Book of Blessings for Times of Grief)
We don’t have a blog this week, but I (Karin) am unwilling to leave this space empty, especially as this month has been heavy for many of our friends. I find the prayers of confession and words of assurance crafted by Anne and the team of liturgy-writers very moving: they weave together the nitty-gritty of our inward lives with the sublime and leave me hope-filled. So, I thought I’d offer you this portion of our Epiphany liturgy today. Peace!
We are a community of confession.
There is room here to be honest about our lives, and the places of sadness, shame, and anger that might otherwise remain hidden.
God wants to hear the truth; to mourn and cry and shout with us, and to offer us more truth in turn: the truth of mercy, the light of healing and hope.
So let us pray:
In things we’ve done, and in things we’ve left undone; In words spoken, and in words unsaid, We remember the times we lost sight and sense of Love’s way.
Pause
And right here, right into the untidy middle of our sadnesses, our shames, our angers, our regrets — God’s love shines warmly and constant like the sun on a clear day.
God longs to mend and make right the scattered fragments of our Iives. Here, in the messy middle, this is where the Epiphany begins! Thanks be to God.
And thanks be to God that Jesus has put flesh on this divine longing, and given us each other to be the body of Christ, offering peace to one another and to all creation.
Peace be with you!

New to Southpoint?
At Southpoint, it all begins with God’s love. Just as a plant grows, it receives sunshine, so we grow as we receive God’s love. At Southpoint, we are growing in our capacity to love God, ourselves, one another, and Creation.
We seek to be a community of grace that is intentional yet organic, spacious yet authentic, grace-filled yet accountable. * We are fully welcoming. *
We encourage relationships rather than run programs, yet we recognize the importance of intentionality and structure as we nurture life together.
As a community, we seek to put our love in action. We value helping out on Sunday mornings, sharing food, and showing up in hard times. We keep our church life simple so folk have time to build relationships with family, friends, and neighbours. We encourage folk to serve in tangible ways within the wider community. We rent space rather than own a building, allowing us to do more with less, supporting missions at home and abroad.
