The Practice of Epiphany: Becoming the Light

“When the song of the angels is stilled, when the star in the sky is gone,
when the kings and princes are home, when the shepherds are back with their flocks,
the work of Christmas begins:
to find the lost, to heal the broken, to feed the hungry, to release the prisoner,
to rebuild the nation, to bring peace among the people, to make music in the heart.”
Howard Thurman – theologian, educator, civil rights leader.

“Practice the beatitudes of Jesus and you’ll never be tempted to bully. Speak truth to power. Do justice, love kindness, and walk humbly with God. Weak and vulnerable people need our embrace, not our mockery. Let’s welcome the stranger, build bridges of hospitality, and cherish grace. Remember that once you speak a word, it’s impossible to unspeak it. Resist fear. Insist on extending hope to others. Never view yourself as above forgiveness.”
Peter W. Marty, The Christian Century

Please pray for Anne and Chris Hartnell.
Anne had a car accident last Tuesday and their car has been written off and Anne is undergoing therapy for whiplash.

You are invited to a music jam on Wednesday February 22 – 7pm. Worship leaders are going to come with new music to learn together. We’d love to have the opportunity to make music together more as well as learn some new songs so – bring your voice, your instrument and come on down to Kingfisher Farm, we’ll meet at the Neufeld’s.
Everyone is invited! (RSVP Please)

“Earth-Keeping as Mission”
Markku and Paul are speaking at a special mini-conference, as part of  “Missions Fest Friday”, January 27, from 1:00pm to 5:00pm, Level 2, Meeting Room 12. Tickets are $10. Caring for creation is a Gospel issue and it is also a matter of justice. Being in right relationship with God leads us to a right relationship with self, others and creation. This mini-conference explores what “shalom” looks like on the ground for people and places. We will also take the mandate of caring for creation right into your church and discover very practically what you can do through community gardens locally, as well as supporting small-scale farmers in the Global South.
