Southpoint News January 26, 2018
Our scripture for Sunday, Psalm 111, describes a heart’s response to God’s epiphany. The psalmist has witnessed God’s light and is compelled to praise God in the presence of a gathered community who also love God: “I will thank the Lord with all my heart in the meeting of his good people.” During the season of epiphany, we have named some ways that light of God’s love breaks into our daily lives. Sometimes this light comes and brings delight, joy, creativity, renewal. Sometimes this light comes and exposes what is hurt and wounded. Sometimes this light leads us into repentance. Sometimes this light leads us into reconciliation and renewal. In the first “epiphany story”, the wise men were moved by the appearance of the light to go to Jesus and worship him. On Sunday, we will be these wise women, men, and children, gathering together to worship him. Our service will be very simple – we will share our stories of epiphany as the wise men shared their gifts with Jesus. The prompt to prepare you for our sharing will be this question: I wonder how I have experienced the light of Christ breaking into life recently? Please be thinking about a story or experience you might be willing to share. After each story or sharing, we will say this refrain together: ONE (personal sharing): I will thank the Lord with all my heart in the meeting of God’s people. ALL: Praise the Lord!
